Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sassari, Italy
On 6 March 2026, the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Università degli Studi di Sassari hosted the Final Meeting of the MIUR PRIN2020 project (2022–2025) “InfinitEGG – New perspectives for the exploitation of female reproductive potential in mammals: from the recovery of the untapped natural ovarian reserve to the generation of oocytes and granulosa cells from mesenchymal stem cells.” The meeting was locally organized by Fiammetta Berlinguer, Deputy Coordinator of the project.
The InfinitEGG project, funded within the Italian PRIN2020 framework, brought together five Italian universities: Università degli Studi di Milano (UNIMI), Università degli Studi di Sassari (UNISS), Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (UNIROMA Tor Vergata), Università degli Studi dell’Aquila (UNIVAQ), and Università degli Studi di Palermo(UNIPA).
The project, coordinated by Alberto Maria Luciano (UNIMI), focused on innovative strategies to enhance female reproductive potential in mammals, ranging from the recovery and activation of the residual ovarian reserve to the in vitrogeneration of oocytes and granulosa cells from mesenchymal stem cells.
The Final Meeting presented the main scientific achievements of the three-year project and stimulated discussion on future perspectives in reproductive biology, regenerative medicine, and translational applications in both animal and human reproduction.
The event featured three distinguished invited speakers:
- Maria Belén Rabaglino – Utrecht University (The Netherlands)
- Christiani Andrade Amorim – Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium)
- Ramiro Alberio – University of Nottingham (United Kingdom)
The meeting represented an important opportunity to share results, strengthen international collaborations, and outline new research directions in ovarian biology and advanced reproductive technologies.
